Artist Statement

I consider myself a realist and representational oil painter. I strive to create a connection to everyday life that elicits a distinctive reaction that’s personal and unique for viewers through my paintings. The experience is often one of calmness, introspection and reflection provided by a combination of past experiences, values, beliefs, relationships, and one's sense of beauty.

Artist Biography

Ronald Garnier is a realistic painter in oils on canvas and panels.

His still life paintings are sharp, clear, and vivid in color, texture and representation that elicit a common experience relative to the visual beauty of everyday real-life objects.

Ronald’s figurative paintings tell the stories of “first experiences” that are isolating, integrating, and personal to the viewer but have a common emotional connection that everyone shares as they progress through life. (Example: "Leaving Home")

Moving forward, Ronald has started a series of realistic landscapes that incorporate the effects of light and shadow within linear and atmospheric perspective and subtle colors that draw viewers into the scene and elicit a feeling of calmness, relaxation, introspection, and reflection.

It’s been a long journey.

Ronald earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Art and a Master of Arts degree in education from Webster University.  While in school, Ronald spent three years developing his painting skills in the private studio of Raymond Matteuzzi, a well-known local artist for painting large murals in churches.

Plan B.  Ronald’s wife delivered the first of their five children thirty days after his graduation.  To support his family, Ronald got a part-time job teaching art in St. Louis Community College that lasted two years.  In the beginning, he supplemented his income as a freelance animation artist that eventually became a full-time animation business.

After retirement.

Retiring six months before his 70th birthday, Ronald was able to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time oil painter. Even though he hadn’t painted for 48 years, Ronald honed his painting skills by taking online lessons from successful artist such as Daniel Edmondson, Brian Nehr, Michael James Smith and others.

Ronald is honored to be a member of Oil Painters of America and continues his efforts to create a better, more powerful experience between his paintings and viewers.

Ronald is represented by Grafica Fine Art Gallery, 7884 Big Bend Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63119.  314-961-4020.
